Being human isn’t just about a fight against the machines.

It’s my challenge to the conventional recruiting world and one of my core values. If you’ve ever seen one of my presentations or read my posts online, you’ve seen my #BeHuman tag. Perhaps you even have one of the little people that have become part of my signature. They’re each a reminder that being human is about caring. Kindness. Appreciation for life. As I’ve traveled the world, I’ve carried these people and this message that recruiting doesn’t have to be a cold encounter, but rather a lesson in humanity.

Our guest Danielle Kluge, Senior Sourcing Nerd at Pontoon Solutions, is the embodiment of these ideas in sourcing. Danielle spoke with us last week about how she’s bringing #BeHuman to the sourcing interaction with something she calls responsive sourcing.

Responsive sourcing is basically #BeHuman brought to life.

“One of my passions is being really responsive to candidates and engaging with them,” said Kluge. She brings that passion to every interaction by assuring that every candidate gets real time updates on positions. “I believe in being good to others.”

Most can’t believe you even called.

What does that say about recruiters and sourcers, anyway? People are genuinely surprised to hear from us after investing so much time to apply and interview. What few remember is this: “It’s all about being human.” It’s not about tools. It’s about considering the human on the other side of the interaction and going where they are.

For example, 2.4 billion people in the world are on Facebook. You should be using it, too. Being strategic is fundamentally about considering the person on the other side – not what tools you think are cool.
